LIA CHIEN
Hi there! I'm Lia, an Asian-American journalist from Vermont based in Washington, D.C. covering the ins and outs of congressional committees for CQ & Roll Call.
As a political journalist, I strive to bring objectivity and inside knowledge from those on Capitol Hill to curious readers and stakeholders. As a recent graduate of American University with a degree in journalism, I bring a fresh perspective to covering congressional affairs, policy, and politics.
I began my time on Capitol Hill as a press intern for Sen. Bernie Sanders and then as a fellow for States Newsroom where I covered climate, government spending, and reproductive rights. Currently, my coverage spans judicial policy and voting rights, homeland security and border protection, small business policies, and congressional procedure.
In addition to covering Congress, I am passionate about telling the stories of local communities and the issues most important to them. Growing up in a small rural state as a woman of color left me looking for stories of those traditionally overlooked by the media. As a former intern at VTDigger and Vermont Public, two of the largest outlets in the state, I am proud to have told the stories of countless Vermonters and look to carry this passion to other communities throughout my career.
When I'm not reporting and writing, you can find me trying new restaurants, reading a good book, and finding any excuse to be outside!
